Match Report: UBMHC 5s v Cardiff Met University

Final Score: Bristol University 2-4 Cardiff Met Man of the Match: Henry Fairey D*** of the Day: James Olliver

On the Wednesday of reading week, el cartel stepped out to play cardiff met at home. Unfortunately missing a few players, including the skip, it was looking like a tough fixture, Alexander Dereham took the role of captain. A game of fresher fives was played, with Will Jeffrey coming out unlucky.

What the opposition lacked in brains, was made up for by their organised defense, and put pressure on our defense until a goal was scored. El Cartel played very nice hockey throughout the game. With some nice play in the D and an illegal stop on the line, Bristol was awarded a penalty flick. Mike Wickenden stepped up and calmly took the chance and equalised the game. Alexander Dereham and James Olliver both received questionable greens which left Bristol temporarily with 9 men. With some good play, the half time whistle blew. 1-1 the score with both teams looking equally as good.

With encouraging talk from the skip at halftime, El Cartel came back and after some good hockey, won a short. Mike Wickenden again with a great effort gave Bristol the lead. With the Welsh starting to get angered, they pushed up, and with a dodgy call from the umpire, were awarded a short and frustratingly scored. With the score equal, there was good hockey being played on both sides. The Welsh came back and took the lead. With our heads down, we could not quite find the equaliser. Irfan Alam received yellow in the last few minutes, and after some dodgy play between Fairey and Kishan, the Metropolitan managed to clutch a final goal in the last play. 4-2 a frustrating final score, but El Cartel showing promise for the future.

With many players playing well, MoM went to Fairey for good defensive play and fast counters.
DoD goes again to James Olliver for receiving the green.
